About

Meet Larry Blackwell, LCSW Helping Divorced Couples Build a Healthier Path Forward Divorce may end a marriage, but when children are involved, it begins a new chapter in the relationship between two parents. Unresolved hurt, anger, disappointment, and conflict can make communication and co-parenting difficult. I’m Larry Blackwell, a licensed clinical social worker and founder of Blackwell Counseling & Coaching. I believe meaningful change begins with understanding ourselves, our relationships, and the patterns that shape how we interact with others. Divorce can involve grief, changed expectations, family transitions, and uncertainty about the future. My goal is to help divorced couples develop a more constructive way of relating—without requiring them to agree on everything, forget the past, or become friends. Instead, we focus on respectful communication, healthy boundaries, managing disagreements, and making decisions with children’s well-being in mind. My Experience and Therapeutic Approach My clinical work focuses on the patterns underlying emotional distress, relationship conflict, and communication difficulties. I work collaboratively with clients to understand recurring problems and develop practical ways to respond differently. I draw on evidence-based approaches, including the Gottman Method and Emotionally Focused Therapy, to help couples recognize destructive cycles, better understand emotional reactions, improve communication, and strengthen their ability to work together. Each family’s needs are unique, so counseling is tailored to your circumstances and focused on practical strategies for everyday life. Putting Children First Children benefit when parents reduce unnecessary conflict, communicate about important decisions, and avoid placing them in the middle of adult disagreements. I help parents establish healthier boundaries, manage emotional triggers, navigate parenting disagreements, and communicate more effectively while honoring each parent’s feelings and perspective. A Respectful, Nonjudgmental Environment My role is not to take sides or assign blame. I provide a supportive environment where each person’s perspective can be heard, communication can improve, and more constructive solutions can develop. You do not have to resolve every issue from your marriage to build a healthier post-divorce relationship. Moving forward does not require changing the past; it requires choosing a healthier way to respond to it. If you and your former partner are struggling with communication, ongoing conflict, or co-parenting, counseling can help you create a more respectful, stable, and workable relationship for the benefit of your entire family.
